How Does It Happen?

Here is how Malware Scams unfold.

Example of a scammer impersonating a family member to send a fake wedding invitation:

1 The malware (.APK) file is sent through email or chats as links or attachments.

2 When clicked, the .APK file will prompt you to download an application on your phone.

3 The application will ask permission to monitor your device, applications and gestures.

*If you tap ‘Allow,’ scammers will have remote access and control of your phone, which can compromise your banking details.

4 The application may also display a fake payment page designed to steal your credentials.
